Where To Start?

As any good teacher knows, you have to meet a child where they are. For instance, you can't teach a child to read if they have never seen a letter. You have to teach the alphabet first.

I wonder sometimes where a nonbeliever's mindset is. Where are they? Where do you meet them in order to share God's good news?

Several weeks ago, I was listening to our preacher's sermon, and although it was off subject with his sermon, I began to wonder about the nonbeliever's point of view. That was when I realized that God, Jesus, and the gospel really do sound fantastical. There's a reason for that.

It is fantastical. He is fantastical. There's no way around that, because that is the very nature of God. He is fantastic. The very idea that God sent his son to die in our place is fantastic. His creation is fantastical.

Ask a nurse or doctor how the human body works. It is complex and fantastical. Ask a psychologist/psychiatrist how the human mind works. It is complex and fantastical. Ask a teacher how the learning process works. It is complex and fantastical. Ask a botanist or farmer how the plant kingdom works. It is complex and fantastical. Ask a zoologist or a veterinarian how the animal kingdom works. It is complex and fantastical.

I could keep going, but you get the idea. God and everything he made are complex and fantastical. Maybe the belief that everything the Bible teaches sounds a little too fantastical is, indeed, the first step. Could it be as simple as starting right there to show a nonbeliever everything that God has promised?
