Happy Fourth
I hope you all had as tremendous Fourth as I did. My family and I attended the annual Fourth of July bash that my cousin throws each year. They out did their selves all the way around this year. They got one of those blow up water slides. Wow. It was huge, easily two stories at least. The fireworks show that was so amazing last year was even better this year. There were more fireworks, more songs, just more of everything in general. Landon did a fantastic job; his fireworks ranked right up there with the Friday Night Fireworks you see at baseball games!
If you missed it, what can I say? There's always next year! In the meantime check out The Life of a Firework, the book that was inspired by last year's fireworks show. It's the next to best thing you're going to find. You get a verbal description of what I saw, and a visual depiction of what my sister saw.
I love that the whole day is very patriotic and is all about friends and family getting together to celebrate that patriotism, but I think for me the most monumental part of the day was Landon's reaction to the book. Of course, we dedicated the book to him, because why would you not? It was literally our twisted version of his fireworks show. So, naturally we wanted to give him a copy of the book that he inspired. I figured that could go one of two ways. Either he looks at us like we are nuts for giving a full grown adult his very own copy of a children's book, or he was touched that we dedicated it to him. It was the latter. He was genuinely excited about the book. He appreciated the dedication and was grateful for his own copy.
That was probably the highlight of my day. Since then I've been told by several people to write another one. I'm sorry to say that fireworks don't get a second chance. Once they explode, that's it. There's no re-do, so the firework has been spent. There is so much on the Fourth to draw inspiration from though, so keep your eyes open for the next Fourth of July inspired book!
